Hello Guys!

l have been considering in studying toward a Master is degree in Economics and since l am not good at mathematics l wanna know how many courses in math will l need to take for Master is degree in Economics?

How much math is required in graduate economics

Multivariate calculus and Linear Algebra are absolutely essential.

Prob/stat and econometrics at an undergrad level would help.

Having some exposure to real analysis would also help.

Do not start any masters work in econ until you're done with Calc and Linear algebra, or you will spend all your time trying to figure out the math instead of the economics.

It all depends on where u choose to go to school. At Cal State (where I went) most students had not had calculus. You will need statistics, but that is not math, that is statistics(way different).

Ideally, u should have a year & a half of calculus, some ordinary differential equations, an elementary stat class, & a sophomore course in linear algebra. Then u can complain that there is not enough math in the Masters program & irritate ur fellow students. lol

You will need to learn multivariate calculus, simple probability theory & basic statistics. You should avoid programs the emphasize mathematical economics if u r not good at math. The degree of mastery of math required varies a lot between schools although all expect u to know the basic concepts & the ability to follow a mathematical argument. You should also be comfortable with algebra & have the ability to turn definitions & word problems into mathematical equations which for many poses more of a problem than learning calculus.
